Fifteen positive cases of Cholera have been reported in Kiambu county.
The confirmed cases involve people who attended a wedding in Limuru sub-county on October 8 where they ate food and drinks sourced from caterers.
Kiambu governor Kimani Wamatangi said that measures to monitor the outbreak are currently underway.
“As a response to the outbreak, we have taken measures to monitor and coordinate response with the aim of bringing the cholera outbreak to an end and protecting our people from the infectious disease,” Wamatangi said.
As of Sunday, 4 cases were reported in Limuru, 3 in Ruiru, 3 in Kiambaa, 1 in Kiambu town, 1 in Juja, 2 in Gatanga and 1 in an unknown area.
The Ministry of Health had placed Nairobi county on high alert over reports of a possible cholera outbreak in Kiambu.
The infection is often mild or without symptoms, but can sometimes be severe and life-threatening.
Symptoms in the early stages of infection include profuse watery diarrhea, vomiting, rapid heart rate, loss of skin elasticity, dry mucous membranes, low blood pressure, thirst, muscle cramps and restlessness or irritability.
