A Kenyan national has been sentenced to 16-months imprisonment for cyber stalking Uganda’s Director of Public Prosecutions Jane Frances Abodo.
Oloo Jared Akumu was found guilty of disturbing the peace of Justice Abodo and was convicted on two counts of cyber stalking and offensive communication.
Appearing before Chief Magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu, Oloo was found not remorseful throughout the trial and that the punishment is to serve as a deterrent to him and help him reform.
During trial, the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) was also among the witnesses that prosecution adduced to prove that Oloo did commit the said crimes, in which it was proved that the convict was accusing the DPP and her team of being corrupt by withdrawing a case of theft of a motor vehicle where he was the complainant.
Led by Joan Keko and Jonathan Muwaganya, the prosecution had asked the court to grant the convict a deterrent custodial sentence to deter other would-be offenders from committing the same offence and to safeguard the public from such acts.
On September 15, 2021 and November 2, 2021 from unknown place Oloo willfully, maliciously and repeatedly used his email address to harass the DPP by sending threatening emails and attachments to her official email address.
Prosecution alleges that on the same dates, Oloo repeatedly used his email address to disturb the peace and quiet of DPP by sending threatening emails and attachments to her email address with the purpose of legitimate communication.
In his threatening emails he also promised to report her to her appointing authority president, to inform all diplomats and pin his photographs around East Africa informing them of being corrupt (DPP).
