The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has disparaged the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji for withdrawing major corruption cases.
According to LSK president Erick Theuri, the trend is a major setback in the war against graft in the country and Kenyans need to know what is happening and the motive behind the move.
“The DPP must give an explanation, failure to which we will review evidence in the cases and proceed with private prosecution. The DPP ought to resubmit the investigating files and seal the gaps but not withdraw cases,” it said in a statement.
Theuri said that the DPP’s move is a serious threat to the rule of law and is intended to foster impunity adding that LSK is aware of the impasse between the DPP and former DCI boss George Kinoti, but that the DPP should inform Kenyans of what is going on.
“If the DPP and police continue to charge people without a proper basis, Kenyans will lose trust in them. It seems that the cases withdrawal are meant for public service appointment,” he added.
This comes after President William Ruto’s cabinet nominees, Aisha Jumwa and Mithika Linturi, were acquitted and their cases dropped by Haji.
