Three Tana River county officials, who were arrested by anti-graft officers following the irregular awarding of Sh3 million tender, are expected to be charged today at the Malindi Anti-Corruption court.
The said accused individuals are County Chief Officer Mohamed Muhammad Guracho, Technical Manager of Tana Water and Sanitation Company Salim Juma Makorani , and Gwiyo Makugo Madubi, director for water at Tana River county Government.
Mohamed Muhammad Garucho was apprehended by EACC officers following the irregular procurement of Sh3.6 million borehole drilling services at Mororo, Madogo Town.
He was arrested yesterday morning while the two other officials were arrested on Tuesday and detained at Malindi Central Police Station before their arraignment in court.
Through a statement released by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission the trio will be charged with abuse of public office and failure to adhere to public procurement laws.
“The chief officer was arrested on Wednesday morning while the other two officials were arrested on Tuesday and processed at Malindi central police station,” read part of the statement released by EACC to the press.
This arrest comes just a week after a senior NMS official was arrested by NMS for requiring a bribe from a client in Nairobi in order to render county services.
The NMS officer worked as an Administrator in the health department and demanded Sh400,000 in order to approve online applications relating to testing and issuing certificates to food handlers within the Nairobi Metropolitan Area.
The suspect was arrested at Uchumi House Building after he had already received Sh200,000.
