The Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) yesterday evening voted in new officials to its board of directors during the Annual General Meeting held at the RFUEA Ground.
In the final results, Moses Ndale was elected the new Vice Chairman with Ian Mugambi and Joshua Aroni retaining the Secretary and Treasurer posts respectively.
Oscar Mango was re-elected as a director with Leslie Mwangale also voted in.
Mango garnered 23 votes to retain his seat as a director with Leslie Njenga of Stingers RFC earning 16 votes to become a first-time KRU director.
Hillary Itela was voted out getting 15 votes with Chege coming fourth on 6 votes.
Ndale who was elected KRU vice-chairman after earning 20 votes to beat outgoing director Peris Mukoko who got 11.
Ian Mugambi retained Hon Secretary on 18 votes against Ray Olendo’s 13.
The Annual General Meeting also saw Nationwide league clubs Meru RFC and Vihiga Granites granted full affiliation to the Kenya Rugby Union, bringing the total number of KRU affiliates to 51.
Only seven Kenya Cup clubs were cleared to vote in the Kenya Rugby Union AGM.
KRU chairman Oduor Gangla said the next, urgent step after the polls is to amend the Union’s constitution in line with the law.
The KRU had resolved to postpone the elections by 14 days only to be told failure to hold elections would risk Kenya getting suspended by World Rugby.
The dilemma for KRU was whether counties would be allowed to vote as per the sports act 2013 despite the KRU constitution only giving voting powers to the clubs.
