Religious leaders have called for peaceful coexistence and unity across the political divide after Supreme Court’s verdict to uphold William Samoei Ruto’s victory.
The leaders congratulated Ruto for his victory and urged him to form a united government after being sworn in on Tuesday next week as stipulated in the constitution.
“Your excellency Dr. William Ruto, we congratulate you on your confirmation as the president-elect. We urge you to be a leader of all Kenyans regardless of their political, ethnic, or religious leanings by demonstrating, in word and deed, justice and equality. We are praying for you that God will enable you to inspire confidence, dignity, and grace for all Kenyans,” stated arch-bishop Martin Kivuva.
The men of God thanked the former premier and all those who lost the respective positions they were contesting for.
They also thanked Raila Odinga for conducting himself in an appropriate and orderly manner ever after the supreme court ruling.
“Your excellency, we commend you for the great contribution you continue to make as a leader in Kenya. You have demonstrated strong statesmanship in your calls for the rule of law to be respected and upheld. We are praying for you,” Kivuva insisted.
The clergy congratulated all Kenyans for conducting themselves in a mature manner during and after the August 9 polls.
“Having elected those who will be our leaders for the next five years, let us now focus our energies on holding them to account so that they deliver justice and faithful implementation of the constitution and laws of Kenya as well as policies and strategic plans,” revealed reverent Joseph Mutie.
The church congratulated the apex court for the hearing and determining the disputed August 9, polls although they expressed that they were not contended with the ruling.
They congratulated president Uhuru for his ten-years term and his commitment to a peaceful transition.
The leaders included the council of imams and preachers of Kenya, Evangelical Alliance of Kenya, Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops, National council of churches of Kenya, organisation of African instituted churches, and the Supreme council of Kenya Muslims.
