The National Assembly Majority leader Amos Kimunya has conceded defeat after losing the Kipipiri parliamentary contest to United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate and Nyandarua Woman representative Wanjiku Muhia.
Through his social media, Kimunya took the opportunity to thank the people of Kipipiri where he served as a lawmaker for the last 15 years.
“The people made their decision, which was different from our expectations. In a democracy, the will of the people prevails, and therefore I and #TeamKimunya will respect their choices,” Kimunya said.
Kimunya, a former Finance Minister, stated that while the people’s choice defied his expectations, he will withdraw from the political scene.
“We did our best for Kipipiri, we are proud of our achievements, and that history will never be erased. The people have, however, made their choice and we respect it,” he said.
Kimunya won the seat in 2017 as the MP through Jubilee Alliance Party, unseating former MP Samuel Gichigi of the Alliance Party of Kenya (APK).
