The National Assembly has thrown out an amendment that would have blocked the Kenya National Examination Council (Knec) from automatically canceling exam results.
MPs instead upheld an amendment of the Education Committee that sought to delete a proposal by Sabatia MP Alfred Agoi that required Knec to notify suspected examination cheats of the accusations against them and give them an opportunity to defend themselves.
Candidates will, however, have an opportunity to appeal a Knec decision at an appeals tribunal.
The committee chairperson Sabina Chege said that the provisions will instead be included in the regulations.
