The Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (Kemsa) will temporarily shut down the Nairobi Central and Regional warehouses from Friday, July 1 until Sunday, July 8 to allow the authority to account for its inventory as it takes a break from its annual stock audit.

According to the institution, the closure would be implemented so they can account for their goods.

The dispatch of medical supplies and the issuance of receipts, with the exception of emergencies, are among the services that would be suspended, according to Kemsa.

“Normal Sales and Warehouse operations will resume on Monday, July 11, 2022. We wish to notify our esteemed Customers and the general public that we shall close our Nairobi Central and Regional warehouses for the annual stock-take effective Friday 1st to Friday 8th July 2022, both days inclusive,” the statement read.

For the national strategic stock reserve, the required essential health packages, and national referral hospitals, the authority is responsible for acquiring, storing, and distributing medicines and medical supplies.

Kemsa recently launched an automated purchase order generation system as part of its transformation journey.

Following Terry Ramadhani’s announcement that the authority will automate contracting so that suppliers wouldn’t need to visit Kemsa to sign the contracts, the authority earlier automated its supply system.

To avoid the delays that occur when signing parties are not accessible at the same moment, they will instead have their contracts emailed to them for their review and signing before submitting them to the authority.

The Authority’s strategy to ensure ethics and integrity includes automating the procurement process and doing away with manual steps that call for human intervention, such as issuing LPOs.

A new Inventory Management Policy has been implemented by the new Kemsa CEO in an effort to improve the authority’s reliability and effectiveness.

The Kemsa board approved the inventory management policy after conducting a management assessment.
