Two schools in Bomet East are locked in a bitter row with the Teachers Service Commission over transfer of its principals.
Kong’otik Girls’ and Kiplabotwa secondary schools have been forced to stay without schools heads for two months after its management boards turned down new heads posted and accused TSC of failing to consult before appointing new principals.
Kong’otik board said TSC has refused to heed their call to sit down and settle on a new principal saying TSC wants to singlehandedly pick a school head for them.
“TSC is trying to force principals who are known to produce poor results to our schools but we are telling them will not accept that,” said Jackline Kirui, the institution’s board chair.
She wondered why TSC was sidelining them and even the sponsors who are critical in the management of the schools.
Learning has been affected in the schools and has force local leaders to intervene.
Kenya National Union of Teachers and Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers have been irked by the conduct of the TSC county director William Molla who wants the schools to accept the new heads unconditionally.
KNUT’s Malel Langat said the TSC was playing hide and seek games with the lives of learners from the two schools.
His Kuppet counterpart Paul Kimetto said it was sad that TSC was resorting to threats instead of engaging the board members of the two schools.
The two unionists threatened to storm the TSC offices over the stalemate saying learning is being affected as a result of the tag of war between the two sides.
“TSC county director should stop dictating to the two schools and listen to the boards,” said Langat.
Langat at the same time took issue with decision by the TSC to transfer principals from other counties.
He demanded that the TSC should promote teachers within Bomet.
“Our teachers in Bomet are capable and we will not accept to be overlooked and teachers from outside be promoted and brought to head schools in Bomet,” he said.
