Kenya Rugby Union’s annual general meeting (AGM) held on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, in Nairobi, failed to see the election of officials as was expected due to non-compliance with the Sports Act 2013.
KRU chairman Oduor Gangla told the meeting that only two clubs, only KCB and AP Rugby have so far complied with the Sports Act 2013, thus failing to reach the quorum expected to hold an election.
At least 10 fully complied affiliates are required for KRU to conduct the election.
According to the Registrar of Sports, only two out of the 49 affiliates had fully complied.
“The Sports registrar spoke to us Tuesday evening, saying, “We can’t hold the elections because out of 47 member clubs only two are affiliated,” Gangla said.
The Informer has learnt that a letter from the Registrar of Sports Rose Wasike to Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) on Tuesday evening urged the union to postpone Wednesday’s elections for two months until all rugby clubs and their affiliates fully comply with the Sports Act.
The union intended to elect new officials to the positions of vice-chairman, honorary secretary, honorary treasurer, and two directors of the union was, however, pushed to a later date when only 10 clubs submitted their papers to the registrar of sports of compliance.
Meanwhile, the meeting passed all other agendas including the treasurer’s report.
