Police in Sotik, Bomet county are holding a senior Principal Magistrate over defilement allegations.
James Ongondo, 51, a Senior Principal Magistrate at Kehancha law courts in Migori county, was arrested yesterday night at a lodging within Kaplong, while in the company of a 17-year-old girl.
The magistrate had booked a guest room at Kaplong at 8pm and later at 11pm, he brought in the teenage girl into his room.
The manager of the guest house alerted Sotik Police Station officers, who laid an ambush.
“Detectives based at Sotik Police station got wind of the incident and rushed to the hotel. They rescued the minor, apprehended the suspect,” read police statement.
Detectives recovered crucial exhibits including stained bedsheets which will be subjected to forensic analysis at the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) National Forensic Laboratory, for DNA examination and other necessary tests.
Both the suspect and the victim were rushed to hospital for the necessary medical examination as the victim was later booked as a child in need of care and protection.
The magistrate is currently in custody being processed for defilement charges.
