A man identified as Jim Basil Agot was arraigned in Milimani Law Courts and charged with impersonating a public officer contrary to the Law.
Agot is said to have presented himself to KRA offices in Nairobi between March 1 and 23, 2022 as a person employed by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), ICT department.
Appearing before Chief Magistrate Micheni Wendy of Milimani Law Courts, the accused denied particulars of the case and was released on a bond of Sh 500,000 and an alternative cash bail of Sh 200,000.
The prosecution submitted that Agot approached officer Christine Moraa and introduced himself as an ICT officer from KRA. He proceeded to dupe her that the revenue institution had instructed him to extract KRA internal information by installing Mikrotick Routeboard gadget into the KRA local area network (LAN) port.
The motive of extracting the said information remains unknown.
However, the prosecution said they expect the investigation team to unearth more facts involving the crime as the matter approaches the hearing stage in court. The case was set to proceed on April 8, 2022, for pretrial.
