A caretaker committee has been appointed to conduct all the Football Kenya Federation affairs for the next six-month.
This is after the Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed disbanded the FKF that is led by Nick Mwendwa and appointed the committee chaired by retired judge Aaron Ringera to mandate the country’s football business.
“Over the past few years, the Football Kenya Federation has faced several governance issues that have been of great concern to the Ministry. First, the Football Kenya Federation has failed to account for all the monies allocated to it by the Government. All beneficiaries of the Fund are as a matter of course trained on how to apply, utilize and account for the funds. The beneficiaries are also aware that they are required to fully disclose any financial assistance received from other sponsors. Football Kenya Federation has fallen short of this requirement” read part of the statement.
The FKF was disbanded following an audit report which was recommended by an inspection committee the CS formed to investigate the national football organization that is facing allegations of corruption.
The CS had directed the Registrar of Sports Rose Wasike to undertake an inspection of Football Kenya Federation pursuant to Section 52 (1) of the Sports Act (2013) following an extended deterioration of the state of football management in Kenya.
“The Registrar has forwarded the report to my office and recommended that DCI, NIS and EACC carry out further investigation to establish the extent to which the misappropriation of funds in FKF may have occurred with a view of prosecuting those who may be found culpable .The current officials of FKF be removed from office to pave way for further investigations pending conclusion” read the statement.
The committee chaired by Ringera has among others former international Kenyan footballer and rugby player Dr JJ Masiga,FKF Premier league side Kenya Police FC head coach Bobby Ogola and Harambee Starlets international Neddy Atieno.
Others in the 15-member committee include retired General Moses Oyugi, Fatma Adan, Philip Musyimi, Anthony Isayi, Elisha Kiplangat, Hassan Mahmoud Hajji, Fredrick Lekesike, Ali Amour, former FKF vice president Titus Kasuve and former Kenya Rugby Union bosses Mwangi Muthee and Richard Omwela.
