The country has this morning received a consignment of additional 358,200 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine from Canadian Government.
The vaccines were handed over by Canadian Ambassador to Kenya David Anthony Da Silva and received by Health Principal Secretary Susan Mochache at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
Speaking while receiving the consignment, Mochache said that over 3.6 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines have been reecived in the country as of today, adding that Kenya expects an assortment of 4.6 million more doses in the coming weeks.
“All these will be key in our commitment to vaccinate at least 10 million Kenyans by end of December,” she said.
The vaccines were donated through the Covax facility and transported by the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef).
The vaccines donated by Canadian are expected to boost the ongoing vaccination campaign that has seen 2,792,309 people receive Covid-19 vaccine.
The country received 880,000 doses of Moderna Covid-19 vaccine last month from the United States.
Moderna vaccine is the 2nd vaccine to be deployed in the country with Pfizer vaccine scheduled to be delivered next month.
The country is expecting to receive 393,000 doses of Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccine in the next few weeks and 1.8 million doses of Pfizer vaccine this month.
The total first doses received are 1,985,905 while second doses are 806,404.
The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is at 40.6 per cent with the majority being males at 55 per cent while females are at 45 per cent.
The proportion of adults fully vaccinated now stands at 2.96 per cent.
