National Super Alliance (NASA) and Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission today hammered a deal on the parallel tallying with the electoral body giving Nasa green light but for internal use only.
The agreement was arrived at today following an half a day meeting between IEBC and NASA quarter at the commission’s headquarters.
“Parties recognize that it is the mandate of the IEBC to announce and declare the results of an election. However, political parties and media may monitor, tally and verify the results for the own internal use,” said Chebukati in a joint statement.
Raila, Musalia, Kalonzo and Mudavadi did not speak to the media only allowing Chebukati to read the joint resolution.
The opposition have been in the recent weeks locked horns with the IEBC on the creation of the parallel presidential tallying center which the poll’s body earlier dismissed as illegal.
“As IEBC will be announcing their results, media houses will be relaying their results as well. We as Nasa we will also announce our results from Nasa tallying center,” Raila announced during the Sunday’s ODM rally in Nairobi’s Joseph Kangethe grounds
IEBC before yesterday’s meeting had maintained a hard stance claiming the mandate of tallying and announcing results lies clearly with the electoral body and not any other third party.
