Nairobi governor Evans Kidero was yesterday arraigned in a Kisumu court over claims that he had illegally purchased a land belonging to a resident of Kisumu.
Appearing before Environment and Land judge Stephen Kibunja, Kidero said he legally bought the land from the owner, Murithi Mbui.
The governor was accused by one Peter Ocholla of purchasing and fencing off part of his land illegally.
But the Nairobi county chief, denied the accusations saying he had followed the due process in acquiring the piece of land he land, he said, was purchased nine years ago, with no legal challenge raised against it.
Kidero stated that the land in question belonged to Murithi Mbui and not Mr. Ocholla and did not see the title deeds that are why he bought the land.
Ocholla, in his submissions before the court, said he purchased the land from its initial owner, Peter Angira in 2005. However, he was involved in an accident in 2010 and was later admitted to hospital.
On his visit to the farm after recovering, he was surprised to note that someone had fenced his portion and on enqubry, he was told that the governor had purchased the land.
He demanded that the governor rectify the situation but he failed to comply and still persist on such refusal and neglect.
However, on his defense, Kidero disclosed that he documents used to purchase the land have been unchallenged for the nine years that I have had the land.
The case will be heard on May 18.
