Ruto attends Uganda’s 60th anniversary
President William Ruto arrived in Uganda yesterday to join Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni in celebrating the country’s 60 years of independence.
The visit is also meant to strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries.
The anniversary had been marked with tension between the two countries after Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who is also Museveni’s son last week issued a series of tweets that derided Ruto’s election and joked about the ease with which his troops could capture Nairobi in two weeks.
His sentiments caused an uproar on social media in both Kenya and Uganda forcing Museveni to apologise.
“I am very sorry for what my son Muhoozi did. I ask our Kenyan brothers and sisters to forgive us for tweets sent by General Muhoozi, former Commander of the Land Forces,” he apologised.
Ruto was accompanied by First Lady Rachael Ruto, Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Nominee Alfred Mutua among other leaders.
Ruto is expected to travel to Tanzania tomorrow.
