Clinical officer in trouble after hitting banker with beer bottle during fight over a woman

A clinical officer who allegedly struck a bank official on the face with a beer bottle during a fight for a woman is facing charges of unlawfully causing grievous harm contrary to section 234 of the Penal Code.
Simon Tingo Range is accused of causing the serious injuries to Paul Makheti at a bar in Tassia Estate, Embakasi in Nairobi on June 14, 2025 after they disagreed over a woman that Tange wanted to dance and hang out with.
The woman was accompanying Makheti during the incident.
Makheti was enjoying drinks with friends including a number of ladies while Tange was drowning his sorrows in loneliness.
Tange later went to the complainant’s table and forced one of the ladies enjoying Makheti’s company to dance with him regardless of resistance by Makheti who ordered him to stop.
The suspect allegedly turned violent, and went back to his table where he picked a beer bottle and hit the victim on the forehead.
Makheti, who works with a local bank, was rushed to a nearby hospital by friends where he was treated before reporting the matter at the Tassia Police Post.
Police officers visited the scene of crime and recovered the beer bottle that Range used to assault Makheti. Range was later arrested at a hospital where he works after witnesses recorded statements.
The suspect denied the charges before Principal Magistrate Renee Kitangwa of Makadara Law Courts.
Range was released on a cash bail of Sh50, 000 and an alternative bond of Sh100, 000.
The case will be mentioned on July 2, 2025 for a pretrial and setting of hearing dates.
