Jubilee Party now wants criminal charges against Bishop Margaret Wanjiru be dropped. Wanjiru has since denied charges of malicious damage to property worth Sh 30,000 during the recent Jubilee party nomination.
When the case came for hearing before Milimani trial magistrate Martha Mutuku, Wanjiru through her lawyer Kennedy Ochieng informed the court that Jubilee party wants to withdraw the charges against bishop Wanjiru.
But prosecution led by senior state counsel Alloys Kemo told the court that the office of DPP has not received such communication from Jubilee party. He said prosecution was ready with witnesses to proceed with the hearing.
However the defence lawyer applied for adjournment, saying they need more time to write a formal communication to the DPP to make a decision on the Jubilee request. The magistrate adjourned the case to be mentioned after one month for further direction.
Wanjiru who is out on cash bail of Sh 500,000 has denied two counts of malicious damage to property worth Sh 30,000 and creating a disturbance in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace.
The politician is said to have stormed at City Park polling centre, On May 1 where she allegedly destroyed voting materials over a mix up in the ballot papers.
