Co-operative Bank is among the contracted service providers to disburse Inua Jamii stipend to over one million Kenyans.
This is after the State Department for Social Protection said the 1,067,805 beneficiaries registered under the Cash Transfer for Orphans and Vulnerable Children (CT-OVC), Cash Transfer for Persons With Severe Disabilities (PWSD-CT) and the Older Persons Cash Transfer (OPCT) will receive payment for July-August and September-October 2021 payment cycles.
“These beneficiaries have already been enrolled into the program and their accounts have been successfully submitted to the Consolidated Cash Transfer Management Information System,” Public Service, Gender, Senior Citizen Affairs and Special Programmes CS Margret Kobia said.
Beneficiaries will each receive Sh8,000.
The disbursement will also be done through Equity Bank, KCB, Post bank, National Bank of Kenya and Kenya Women Microfinance Bank.
Banks have been urged to adhere to the Ministry of Health Covid-19 protocols to minimize the danger of beneficiaries contracting or spreading the coronavirus during the payment process.
Kobia noted the funds will remain accessible in the beneficiaries’ accounts for a period of six months to reduce unnecessary rush to the banks and at the same time help avert crowding at the payment points.
Another Sh13.04 million has also been released to cater for the Nutrition Improvements through Cash and Health Education (NICHE) complementary Programme beneficiaries.
At least 339,151 households are set to benefit from the funds and it targets households with children under two years of age and Pregnant or Lactating mothers who are already enrolled in the Inua Jamii Programme.
