Mwalimu Abduba Dida’s wife, Amina Guyo Halake, declares interest in presidential seat

According to Amina, Kenya needs a leader who will respect the rule of law and the constitution, and not one where the rich bend the law and the poor are charged by the same laws

Amina Guyo Halake, the wife of former presidential aspirant Mohammed Abduba Dida, has declared that she will vie for the presidential seat in the upcoming 2027 General Elections.

Speaking after declaring her interest in the country’s top seat, Amina said women need to be given an equal chance as their male counterparts, especially in leadership positions.

Amina has announced that she will vie using the Alliance for Real Change (ARC) party ticket.

According to Amina, Kenya needs a leader who will respect the rule of law and the constitution, and not one where the rich bend the law and the poor are charged by the same laws.

She added that the rule of law should not just be a slogan or symbol.

“In Kenya today, the laws are bent for the powerful and are broken by the poor. We cannot build a nation where the rule of law is just a symbol or a slogan. We need a leader who upholds the constitution and delivers justice for all and fights impunity without fear or favour, “Amina stated.

Speaking after Amina’s declaration, ARC Party Secretary General Badi Ali revealed that they will be supporting women and youths vying in the upcoming General Elections.

He added that they will not be charging them for tickets, and they’ll support them and ensure they clinch the seats they’ll be vying.

“If you are less than 35 years old and have an interest in an elective post, then approach us to be given a ticket for the upcoming by-elections. We have affirmed that any youth who wants to be a leader will not be charged any money to be given the ticket. It will be free of charge,” he said.

“If you are a woman, you’ll also be given a free ticket and support to ensure you get the seats,” he added.

Dida, a two-time presidential candidate, was freed this year after serving a three-year jail term in the USA.

Dida was expected to leave the facility on April 3, 2029, after he was initially sentenced to 7 years; however, he was released on parole.

Being “released on parole” means a prisoner is conditionally released from prison before their sentence is fully served, to serve the remainder of their sentence in the community under supervision.

According to records from the Big Muddy Correctional Facility in Illinois, Mwalimu Dida walked to freedom in March, so he will offer philanthropy services for the remainder of his sentence in the United States.

Dida had been held at the correctional facility since November 2022, after he was found guilty of stalking and intimidating his American wife in the Midwestern US state.

Documents from the court indicated that Dida violated a restraining order when he entered an area deemed off-limits under U.S. law.
