Inspector General l of Police Joseph Boinnet yesterday presided over the Manu Chandaria Bravely Awards ceremony of twenty five police officers nominated last year.
However, one officer was honoured posthumously.
“It is great honour and privilege for us today to join Dr Manu Chandaria as we celebrate the courage and selflessness of police officers most of whom have gone beyond the ordinary callof duty to register extra ordinary achievement.” Boinnet said.
The police boss also reminded the officers to always go beyond their call of duty to make the country safe.
Ten of the officers were drawn from the Kenya Police Service, ten from Administration Police Service and five others from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
They include Inspector of Police (IP) John Ochola, Police Constable (PC) Maruga Towett, PC Amani Kiliru, IP Bernard Kiptoo, Administration Police Constable (APC) Nicholas Onyango, IP Peter Muthee, Corporal Kipkurui Chepkonga and PC Kennedy Muriuki among others.
Chandaria challenged the officers to always strive and impact positively in their day today duties.
“You have played a key role in changing the society positively.
The Manu Chandaria Foundation would like to thank you in a very special way.” Chandaria said as he handed award certificates to the officers.
Chandaria Bravely Awards are held annually sponsored by Manu Chandaria Foundation.
Fifteen of the officers were honoured for their successfully operation against AlShabaab attacks.
Boinnet also acknowledged the officers who have died in the line of duty in the last one year while protecting the lives and property of Kenyans.
“I wish to state that as a service we honour them and stand by their families for their heroism and acts of courage as a result of which our country holds together. I also in the same vain wish a quick recovery to those officers who have been injured in the course of duty because the service and their families need them.”Boinnet added.
