A driver was seriously injured while nine cows died on the spot after a speeding saloon car rammed into a herd of cows along the Kiambu – Ruiru road today morning.
Francis Kamau an eye witnesses said that the vehicle was speeding past a corner near Membley area when the cows that were grazing along the road ran across causing the driver to lose control and run over them.
Kamau said the driver, who is recuperating at Kiambu level four hospital, tried to slow down the car but due to the speed, the vehicle veered off the road and ploughed into the cows killing nine on the spot and injuring others.
Ruiru OCPD Isaac Thuranira who addressed journalists at the scene said that the accident could have been avoided if the driver was not speeding while approaching a corner which is known as a black spot.
Thuranira cautioned drivers to drive cautiously adding that the few accidents that are being experienced in Ruiru are usually caused by careless and speeding drivers who do not want to follow the stipulated traffic rules and regulations.
He called upon members of the public, particularly herders to take caution while grazing their cattle around the town and along roads saying that they are frequently involved in accidents.
