Stop sabotaging hospital project, Kirinyaga County government told

Kirinyaga Women aspirant Wangui Ngirichi has accused Kirinyaga County government of sabotaging the construction of 100 million level four hospital by Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI).

According to Wangui the actual construction was intended to kick off last year but the county government frustrated the project.

Speaking at Ngothi village in Mwea constituency, the aspirant pointed that the government and donors had already released money for the project but the county government failed to keep its promise to allocate land for the construction.

She lamented that the project it’s in ambience due to failure by the county government to keep its side of bargaining. She said that many cases of cancer have been reported in the county and the construction of the hospital will be of great help to resident of Mwea and Kirinyaga in general.

Ms. Wangui who was on campaign tour of Mwea accused Kirinyaga governor Joseph Ndathi of fighting the project. Wangui said that EACC should also intervene and investigate allegations of corruption pointing that there is claims senior county government are demanding kickbacks to allow the project to commence.

At the same time Wangui pleaded with government to supply people of Mwea with relief food. She pointed out that hundreds of families are going without food since their crops have dried up.

As a matter of urgency the government should supply vulnerable families especially in areas of Kiumbu and Wamumu with relief food. “The crops in this area dried up long time ago due to drought being experienced in the country,” she said.
