Seven schools in Bunyala Central and South wards have not opened due to the flooded River Nzoia.

The affected schools are; St. Ann Nunyala Girls, St Peters Makunda mixed school, Bubamba primary school and Makunda Primary School.

Others are Busagwa, Mukhobola and Nanjomi primary schools.

Bunyala sub-county education officer George Owuoche said they have suspended the re-opening to monitor the water levels in order to avoid disaster.

“The situation looks dangerous for now, we shall inform them when the situation gets is better,” Owuoche told journalists.

Area MCA Felix Omanyi told the Star that children from lower classes are mainly affected since they cannot manage to escape in the event of danger.

“It is now upon the government to come up with a way to put up facilities in schools that are on safer grounds to accommodate the affected pupils in the meantime as learning should not stop due to the rains,” Omanyi said.
