Deputy President William Ruto has emerged as the most preferred candidate for 2022 elections, an Ipsos poll has found.
The poll released on Tuesday showed that among the most prominent national leaders, none is seen as having a firm grip on the presidency come 2022.
Of those probed, 30 per cent were certain that Ruto was going to be the president while 28 per cent said he is somewhat likely to be the president.
21 per cent of the respondents said the DP is not very likely to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta but held that there is a possibility.
Ruto was followed by his rival Gideon Moi (Baringo Senator) at 14 per cent. Of those polled, 36 per cent said the former President Daniel Moi’s son is somewhat likely to be the president.
At least 27 per cent reported that Gideon is not very likely to be be president in 2022 but have agreed the same is possible.
Ruto and Gideon have declared their interest in the 2022 presidential race and are competing for the control of Rift Valley ahead of the general election.
