Witness in Aisha Jumwa murder case stopped from testifying.

The courts have stopped the proceeding of the murder case against Malindi Member of Parliament Aisha Jumwa because the defense team was not provided with crucial evidence concerning the trial.

Police Constable Sikuku Mayumbe had to halt the reconstruction of the crime scene report that was scheduled for yesterday when defense lawyers Jared Magolo, Danstan Omari and other six defense lawyers insisted that it would be an unfair trial if the case proceeded without the defense team having a chance to see the critical evidence and termed it as politically-instigated evidence.

“This is manufactured evidence that we are unaware of and has never been supplied to us,” Magolo said.

“This is a politically-motivated prosecution. It is not a question of whether the suspects have committed the murder.

We are opposed to the production of this type of evidence,” said Omari.

Jola Ngumbao was shot dead on October 15, 2019, after chaos broke out at the home of Reuben Katana, who was an ODM candidate in the Ganda ward by-election in Kilifi County.

The report that was to be tabled in court contains vital information that would aid the expediting the case and finding those guilty, as well as the details of the guns recovered from Jumwa’s car and analysis conducted on the spent cartridge that the investigators collected at the scene of crime, where the deceased was killed.

However, Magolo and Omari argued that the second statement was intentionally doctored to implicate the accused.

The matter has been adjourned to September 26 to 29 to give the MP, who is vying for the Kilifi governor’s seat, time to campaign.
