Wiper MPs warn Kalonzo against backing Raila in 2022

Wiper Member of Parliaments have warned their leader Kalonzo Musyoka against backing Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga’s presidential bid in 2022 polls.

Led by Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua, Wiper MPs asked Kalonzo to remain within the One Kenya Alliance (OKA) together with other leaders in the alliance to fight any attempts to cause divisions.

The leaders said that they have been instructed by Kalonzo supporters from lower eastern not to allow Kalonzo to sacrifice his Presidential ambitions.

“Should our party leader ever make the decision to support the Rt Hon Raila Amolo Odinga for the presidency, we respectfully assure him of two very painful outcomes,” they said in a statement read by Wambua at Parliament buildings.

The MPs said that they will not only abandon Kalonzo, but his Kamba community and other supporters across the country will never forgive him.

The MPs refuted speculations of Kalonzo joining Raila saying that those speculations have no basis and as a party they are not considering deputising Raila in 2022.

“Today we must put to rest wild speculations that our party leader would consider deputising Raila in the 2022 presidential contest. This speculation has no basis and it is not one of the options we are even thinking about,” read the statement.

Mulu said such an arrangement would mean doing the same thing the same way and expect a different result.

“What our people are saying is that they don’t have anything personal with Raila, but what they are saying they have supported Raila two times but nothing has happened,” Mulu said.

After NASA dissolution, Kalonzo has said that he will be on the presidential ballot and denied being Raila’s running mate.

However, Kalonzo is known of stepping down for Raila and being his running mate in the 2013 and 2017 general elections.

Kalonzo said he would not support Raila again in 2022 saying that in doing so it would render him the “most stupid” person on earth.

Other leaders at the press briefing were Irene Kasalu (Kitui woman representative), Dan Maanzo (Makueni), Makai Mulu (Kitui Central), Edith Nyenze (Kitui West) and Danson Mwashako (Wundanyi).
