Waweru accuses Jubilee Party election officials of hitches in his constituency

Dagoretti South legislator, Dennis Waweru yesterday accused Jubilee Party election officials for the hitches that characterised the early stages of the voting exercise in various polling stations in the constituency.

He said after voting that several people’s names were missing from the party’s register exposing elderly voters, who were being assisted to vote to wait longer than expected. Most of them are more than 55 years old.“The process has not been good. There have been various hitches that have hampered a smooth running of the process since morning.

There has also been delay for ballot papers for some MCAs. It is a bit disappointing,” he added. He braved sustained rigging accusations from rival aspirants exuding confidence that he will still win the seat.

He called on his supporters to be calm and avoid engaging in any form of violence.“I am facing more than five strong aspirants, but I believe that at the end of the day, I will emerge victorious,” he said in a brief interview with journalists.Initially, Waweru had declared interest in the Nairobi County’s top seat currently occupied by ODM’s Dr. Evans Kidero, but later forced to scale his ambitions to the Senator’s position.

But after nominated legislator, Johnson Sakaja declared interest, he decided to defend the Parliamentary seat.Dagoretti South constituency has 178, 691 people who hail from five wards that are administered by 8 adminstrative areas. Last week rival aspirants accused him of plotting to rig them out. But the MP has refuted the allegations and said the hopefuls have sensed defeat.
