Wainaina picks Uhuru’s cousin as deputy for Kiambu governorship race
Thika Member of Parliament Patrick Wainaina wa Jungle has chosen former Kiambu Women Representative Anne Nyokabi Gatheca, who is President Uhuru Kenyatta’s cousin, as his running mate in the forthcoming General Election.
Gatheca ran for governor seat under the Jubilee Party but lost the nomination ticket to governor James Nyoro.
She has dropped her bid in support of Jungle, who is now running on an independent ticket after being denied nomination by the UDA.
Separately, Kiambu gubernatorial aspirant Kimani Wamatangi has unveiled Rosemary Njeri Kirika as his running mate.
Njeri, an entrepreneur from Gatundu South, was nominated by Wamatangi, to become the fourth female deputy governor to be chosen by male aspirants.
Wamatangi beat three others to clinch the UDA ticket in April for the county’s governor race after garnering over 85,000 votes.
The three include; Thika MP Patrick Wainana, former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu and Eric Muturi.
Additionally, Nyoro, the incumbent and Jubilee Party candidate, has selected June Njambi Waweru as his deputy ahead of the gubernatorial elections on August 9th.
Former Kiambu governor William Kabogo, who is running under the Tujibebe Wakenya party, announced Esther Ndirangu as his running mate early this week.
Kabogo stated that his decision to unseat the incumbent governor came after extensive dialogue and analysis.
Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria, vying on the Chama Cha Kazi party platform, has chosen Faith Mwaura, a young real estate developer, as his running mate for the governorship.
Mwaura has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Daystar University and an MSc degree in Real Estate from Scotland’s Heriot Watt University.
