MKU teams dominate in KUSF varsities league championship awards

MKU won the 'Best Private University' award, 'Best Host University', 'Most Punctual University' and 1st runners-up overall winning University

Mount Kenya University (MKU) teams dominated the Kenya Universities Sports Federation (KUSF) Nairobi North Conference league awards ceremony, leading in four categories.

MKU won the ‘Best Private University’ award, ‘Best Host University’, ‘Most Punctual University’ and 1st runners-up overall winning University.

Kenyatta University emerged the overall winners in the ‘Best Public University’ award category while Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology finished 2nd runners up best university, overall during the league held at MKU grounds in Thika, Kiambu county.

The Nairobi North Universities sports league commenced in September 2024 and will be ending officially the weekend of 22nd and 23rd of March 2025.

The awards ceremony was graced by MKU Students Welfare Principal, Peter Waweru who encouraged students to uphold integrity and ensure they field eligible participants as per the KUSF eligibility regulations.

Most importantly, he reminded the players to be keen about their mental capacity and to seriously take care of their mental health.

He encouraged the Nairobi North Conference officials to plan and implement capacity building and training forums on matters mental health to players, coaches’ officials and University members of staff in the sports departments.

The MKU Sports, Film and Creative Arts coordinator William Luta, reminisced how the long season has been very competitive during the conference that saw over 20 sports discipline competitions held across the two genders.

“The success you see to today is solemnly out of sheer determination, persistence, perseverance, dedication and discipline from the students,

“As Mount Kenya University we are happy with the results and must commend the management for the support in facilitating the sporting department with all the necessary needs to ensure the teams and students are good to go,” Luta stated.

He added: “The coaches, captains and players in general have done a great job and we commend them for their dedication as we look forward to more engagements.”

Luta who is also the Secretary General KUSF Nairobi North conference, talked of plans the conference has put in place to take the activities to higher heights.

“We are looking forward to partnering with progressive local and international sporting organizations that will expose our players to better sporting forums,” he said.

The university teams retreat back to prepare for the Kenya universities sports federation national championship scheduled for 28th to 30th March 2025 at Kenyatta University.
