Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has arrived in Nairobi, Kenya for the third East African Community summit.
The peace and security situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo will be the focus of the EAC Heads of State summit.
President Uhuru Kenyatta will today host Museveni at State House.
Kenyatta, the leader of the East African Community, requested for the deployment of the East African Regional Force to the DRC last week to combat escalating instability.
The President also asked for an immediate halt to hostilities in the eastern provinces of Ituri, North Kivu, and South Kivu, as well as a disarmament exercise to proclaim the area weapons-free.
“In particular, the confrontations threaten to derail the existing political process aimed at resolving the security situation,” he warned.
On Sunday, regional commanders of various Defense Forces will convene in Nairobi to conclude deployment preparations.
According to the report, a Rwandan police officer shot back in self-defence, killing the soldier.
Officials in the Democratic Republic of Congo have verified an “event,” but have not provided any specifics, according to the Associated Press.
People crowded the ambulance as the soldier was transported back into the adjacent Congolese city of Goma, yelling “hero, hero,” according to the Reuters news agency.
The Congolese government accused its neighbour of “invading” after Bunagana was captured on Monday.
