Police in Kisumu on Tuesday impounded 2,200 stones of bhang estimated to be worth Sh660,000.
The bhang, suspected to be from Uganda, was nabbed at Mamboleo area following a tip-off by members the public.
County police commander Titus Yoma told journalists that two suspects – a driver and a passenger – escaped and are being trailed.
“We impounded the vehicle which was ferrying the illegal substance and towed it to Kisumu Central police station.”
Yoma said the vehicle developed mechanical problem forcing the two occupants to look for a mechanic.
“It was at this point that members of the public alerted the police who rushed to the scene,” he said.
“The suspects escaped after they saw the police approaching the vehicle.”
Yoma thanked members of the public for volunteering the information to the police.
He warned drug peddlers that their days are numbered adding that the police will intensify patrols to curb criminal activities.
