Timamy files petition at High Court to challenge his defeat

Former Lamu governor Issa Timamy on Tuesday filed petition at the Malindi High Court to challenge the election of Fahim Twaha.

He wants a scrutiny and a recount of votes cast in the August 8 election saying the exercise was marred by massive irregularities.

The ex-county boss wants the court to declare him the winner if it is confirmed that he got the majority votes in the last month’s polls.

IEBC declared Twaha (Jubilee) winner with 22,969 votes (46.57%) against Timamy’s 22,848 (45.45%).

Timamy, who lost with a margin of 121 votes, told journalists that he has established that he got more votes than Twaha.

“The margin came in as a surprise. We led all the way then we started seeing our competitor leading at the last minute.”

IEBC, county returning officer Adan Mohamed, Twaha and deputy governor Abdikarim Aboud are the respondents.
