Tigania West Lands official arrested in alleged Sh70,000 bribe plot
Tigania West Lands Control Board Member George Muchiri has been nabbed by detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) for allegedly soliciting bribes from the public to process land approvals.
The suspect was nabbed receiving Sh70,000 following a tip-off from the complainant, who required consent from the Board to transfer the property after the sale.
Reports by the Anti-corruption commission indicate that the complainant had sold 0.25 hectares of land and needed consent of the lands board to transfer the property.
It was during the seeking for the land’s board approval that the complainant was asked for a bribe by Muchiri to facilitate the process.
“Muchiri was nabbed by EACC sleuths following a tip-off from a complainant who had sold off his 0.25 hectares of land and required consent from the Board to transfer the property. Detectives conducted an operation and arrested the suspect while receiving the bribe where Sh 70,000 was recovered suspected to be proceeds of corruption.
The arrest of Muchiri comes two weeks after a senior prosecutions officer at the Office Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) was sent on Compulsory leave after he was arrested by sleuths from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission while receiving Sh20,000 as part of a Sh40,000 bribe to fast-track a case in Kilgoris Narok county.
The Director of Public Prosecutions, Renson Ingonga, directed that Japhet Ouko Mayore Isaboke a counsel at the Kilgoris office, proceed for the leave immediately pending investigations.
He was nabbed while receiving part of the negotiated money, i.e. Sh40, 000 from Sh50,000, which he had requested from the businessman.
The businessman refused to pay the Ksh 40,000 bribe and reported the matter to EACC.
The Commission then conducted an operation that led to the arrest of the suspect yesterday while receiving Shs20,000 as part of the bribe.
He was released later on a Sh30,000 cash bail as the police continue with investigations.
