Tiaty MP William Kamket arrested over Laikipia ethnic skirmishes

Tiaty Member of Parliament William Kamket has been arrested by the detectives over the ongoing inter-ethnic cleansing in Laikipia County.

He was arrested at his Kositei home in Tiaty, Baringo County by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

His arrest was confirmed by Baringo County Police Commander Robinson Ndiwa

“Today, we have arrested Tiaty MP where the herders come from. Those herders are the people who have been employed to look after the animals for prominent people, the MP being included,” Ndiwa said.

His arrest came hours after Former Laikipia North MP Mathew Lempurkel arrest by detectives at his home in Rongai, Kajiado County.

Lempurkel is also a person of interest in Laikipia clashes where several people have lost their lives and property due to skirmishes in the region.

He was grilled at the DCI headquarters on Kiambu Road and is set to be arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts.

Addressing the press on the state of Laikipia County security, Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya said that at least eight people have been killed in the past month in Laikipia West insecurity.

He said the deaths happened before the security operation began yesterday.

He warned politicians to keep off Laikipia insisting that this is not the time for them to politic.

He accused area leaders of financing the youth causing unrest in the region by providing them with food and guns, as they continue with their raids.

“We have received reports that some of the owners of the livestock are saying they remove them from the ranches and bring 500 Morans to fight with the security officers. This means that these are planned attacks to ensure the area has no peace,” Natembeya said.
