Tiaty MP Kamket charged with incitement to violence, to spend two more nights in custody
Tiaty Member of Parliament (MP) William Kamket will spend two more nights in police custody pending a ruling on his bail application.
The legislator was today arraigned before Nakuru Senior Principal Magistrate Lilian Arika and charged with incitement to violence in connection with the skirmishes in Laikipia.
He is accused of making inciteful remarks during a meeting held at Amaya area in Tiaty, Laikipia County on July 16, 2021.
However, he pleaded not guilty but the prosecution opposed his application to be released on bail arguing that he is likely to interfere with witnesses in the case.
“There is credible information that will lead to apprehension of people on murder charges and other charges… There was a choreographed plan and a pattern in which these offences were committed. We require time,” submitted the prosecution.
The ruling on the bail application will be delivered on Thursday, September 16.
Kamket was arrested last week from his Kositei home in Tiaty, Baringo County hours after former Laikipia North MP Mathew Lempurkel was seized by detectives at his home in Rongai, Kajiado County in connection the ongoing flare-ups in Laikipia.

Last week, Lempurkel was arraigned before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Sinkiyan Tobiko after spending the night in police custody and charged with hate speech.
According to the charge sheet, Lempurkel referred to one of the communities in the country as “those people whose feet are infested with jiggers” adding that “all conservancies and ranches within Laikipia belong to the Maa community and that the investors may keep the land but the grass on those lands belong to the Maa community.”
He pleaded not guilty and was released on a cash bail of Sh150, 000.
The prosecution did not oppose his release on bail.
The former MP is said have made the inciteful remarks on diverse dates between July 11th and 17th this year during a TV show aired by MAA TV.
His remarks are believed to have contributed to the lawlessness and current skirmishes that have rocked Laikipia County.
