Third-year student at Rongo University dies of suspected suicide
A third-year student at Rongo University in Migori county is suspected to have died of suicide.
The 23-year-old student, Collins Kipkirui, was found hanging from a rope tied to a tree next to his hostel yesterday.
South Kamagambo chief, Joseph Nyamanga said no suicide note was found on the deceased.
“This appears to be a normal suicide and there is no reason to suspect foul play for now, but we will see the direction the investigations will take after a post-mortem exam,” Nyamanga said.
Rongo University Vice-Chancellor Samuel Gudu said they were yet to establish the reason behind Kipkirui’s suspected suicide.
“We’re yet to establish the motive behind the suicide because he did not leave behind a suicide note.
He was a jovial student who often took part in school politics and we will follow up with his colleagues to ascertain what might have prompted the incident,” Gudu said.
The student’s body was taken to Rosewood mortuary in Rongo town.
Kipkirui was a Third-Year student who was pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Education (Mathematics and Chemistry).
