New attachés graduate from Foreign Service Academy, ready for deployment
The Foreign Service Academy has officially graduated a new cohort of Trade, Commercial, Immigration, and Education Attachés, following the completion of the Pre-Departure Training Programme designed to prepare them for deployment to Kenya’s foreign missions.
The programme, which focuses on enhancing diplomatic, technical, and representational skills, places particular emphasis on commercial and economic diplomacy. Participants are trained to advance Kenya’s trade, investment, and development priorities abroad while strengthening service delivery within their respective portfolios.
The graduation ceremony was presided over by the Chair of the Council of the Foreign Service Academy, Prof. Patrick Maluki on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.
Also present was the Acting Director-General, Ambassador Patrick Wamoto. Amb. Wamoto highlighted the importance of professionalism, national interest, and effective service delivery, noting the pivotal role attachés play in promoting Kenya’s commercial diplomacy through trade facilitation, investment promotion, and support for Kenyan enterprises in foreign markets.
Maluki underscored the central role of diplomacy in safeguarding national interests, describing it as the first line of defence for any nation.
He urged the graduates to anchor their service on patriotism, reminding them that the wellbeing of over 55 million Kenyans depends on the effectiveness of the country’s representation abroad.
Maluki who also serves as the Chairman, Department of Diplomacy and International Studies (DDIS) at the University of Nairobi further encouraged attachés to embrace a selfless spirit of public service, prioritising national interest above personal gain.
The graduates were also challenged to collaborate closely with stakeholders to advance commercial diplomacy, strengthen Kenya’s visibility and influence in host countries, and ensure alignment with the government’s foreign policy objectives and economic transformation agenda.
“This training equips you to represent Kenya with integrity and excellence,” Prof. Maluki said. “Your success abroad directly contributes to the prosperity and security of our nation, ” he added.
As they prepare for deployment, the attachés carry the responsibility of projecting Kenya’s image, defending its interests, and leveraging international opportunities to drive national development. Their readiness reflects the government’s commitment to professional, results-oriented diplomatic service that supports both economic growth and international cooperation.
