Zimmerman MCA Kimani Mugo grilled by DCI as dispute over ownership of Roysambu stalls rages

Waweru is said to have claimed that Mugo is the owner of the stalls, as he was the one who allegedly financed the construction

Zimmerman Member of the County Assembly Kimani Mugo has been implicated in the vicious battle for the ownership of modern kiosks in Roysambu amid claims that he unleashed armed gangs to harass and intimidate traders who have rented them.

In a letter to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Benson Irungu Gikuru and Justus Githaiga Gachanja claim to have bought the stalls from the initial owner, who got the stalls from the county government after construction.

The two indicated that they have been receiving rent payments from the tenants until April when Mugo’s personal assistant, John Waweru, showed up claiming that he was the owner.

“In April, John Waweru visited the stalls, claiming that he had not received rent from our tenants, who informed him that they have been paying rent to us as we are the proprietors but Waweru insisted that he be paid via a Paybill he shared to them,” the two businessmen shared in the letter to the EACC.

Waweru is said to have claimed that Mugo is the owner of the stalls, as he was the one who allegedly financed the construction.

However, the stalls were constructed by the Nairobi City County Executive as per the law before being mandated to the initial owners who later sold to the two proprietors.

In the letter to EACC, the businessmen have accused the legislator of contravening Articles 73 and 75 of the Constitution and  the Leadership and Integrity Act.

“In the matter, Honorable Kimani Mugo has violated Articles 73 (2) (b) (c) and 75 (1) (b) of the Constitution and Sections 15, 16 (3), 29, 35, and 20 of the Leadership and Integrity Act,” they told EACC.

They also shared with the anti-graft authority that the tenants were attacked by goons.

“On May 9, 2025, in an act of unbridled impunity, they dispatched armed goons to the stalls in an attempt to ouster us from the stalls in a bid to unlawfully take over ownership and control of the stalls,” they shared in their petition to EACC.

The Informer Media Group confirmed that the attack is under investigations by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation officers in Kasarani where the MCA was grilled last week.

Confirming the grilling, the MCA, however, denied the involvement of his personal assistant in the ownership dispute, even as he acknowledged an ongoing case about the stalls.

“I recorded a statement with the DCI in Kasarani and yes, I’m aware of the ongoing case about the stalls,” he told The Informer Media Group via a phone call.
