No one is thinking about us, striking nurses say as campaigns climax

Striking nurses in Siaya have accused the county of remaining silent regarding their strike.

KNUN Siaya branch secretary Sylvester Ng’anda said politicians are busy campaigning while Kenyans die.

Ng’anda noted not a single politician has expressed concern about their grievances despite promising to improve health care if elected.

He said they only require Sh7.2 billion per year, not Sh40 billion as claimed by a section of politicians.

“This must have been a recipe for corruption because the cost of the nurses’ Collective Bargain Agreement is only Sh28.8 billion in total,” he said.

He spoke during their peaceful demonstration in Siaya town on Friday.

The health workers petitioned the government to sign the CBA so they can return to work to save suffering Kenyans.

Ng’anda said they will return to work once the agreement is signed.

Nurses in Taita Taveta county marched to Governor John Mruttu’s office on Thursday in a push for their deal.
