KCB rugby tacticians in Cape Town to sharpen coaching skills

KCB Rugby Club technical team is in South Africa for coaching and technical preparation training at the High-Performance Centre in Cape Town ahead of a new Kenya cup season and Sevens circuit next month.

The team, which was led by head coach Curtis Olago, Andrew Amonde, Mariko Mushilla, Brian Otieno and Brian Omondi have been invited to Western Province Rugby to engage in discussions with the coaching and support staff of the DHL Stormers Rugby Union team and DHL Western Province Rugby.

According to Olago, he is looking forward to the great adventure while at the same time sharpening his coaching skills ahead of a busy Kenya cup schedule next season.

“Our relationship with Western Province goes way back when we were still trying to set out our plan as a club, and we are basically going to improve on the skill that we already have we have a game profile as a team and every year we have to keep improving on it by keeping up with what is happening internationally,” Olago said.

Olago and his team are expected back on May 4th to prepare for the Sevens Circuit in which the bankers are clear favourites.

Before flying back to the country, the coaching team will also observe DHL Western Province Team’s preparation, training and meetings ahead of their Currie Cup Tournament and at the same time attend home games at the DHL Newlands stadium.

During the visit, they will then join other KCB RFC players including Darwin Mukidza, Samuel Asati, Jacob Ojee, Peter Kioko, Vincent Onyala, Brian Wahinya, and Patrick Yugi who are currently with the Kenya 15s team participating in the ongoing Currie Cup competition.

Back in 2018 and fresh after winning the Kenya cup Olago underwent a 15-day high-performance training tour in South Africa, according to a statement from the bank.

This followed an invitation from Western province Rugby High-Performance manager Greg Hatcher who confirmed that Olago will be attached to the coaching staff from 1st – 15th July 2018. South Africa boasts of a robust rugby system that has invested heavily in talent development and world-class training facilities.
