Kalonzo’s list of demands derailing OKA coalition pact with Azimio
There has been pressure from all quotas for the One Kenya Alliance (OKA) team to team up with Azimio La Umoja to guarantee a round one win against the Kenya Kwanza Alliance formation.
Impeccable sources privy to the ongoing intense boardroom lobbying efforts intimated that Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has put forth tough pre-conditions and irreducible minimums for the OKA to join Azimio which is derailing the coalition pact.
Orange Democratic Movement’s (ODM) leader Raila Odinga is championing Azimio La Umoja Movement.
In an expected pact agreement between the two alliances, our sources disclosed that OKA has demanded the running mate position as well as major representation in government.
Kalonzo is said to have also demanded the National Assembly Speaker’s slot and other four slots in cabinet.
These are among a few of demands to be given to OKA.
OKA leaders are said to be putting together a list of things they hope to agree to at the commencement of a series of activities aimed at explaining to their members why they chose Odinga to be the Azimio La Umoja flagbearer.
Speaking after attending service at Redeemed Gospel Church in Huruma, Nairobi, earlier this month, Kalonzo refuted claims that they have placed conditions for OKA to join Azimio.
Kalonzo said OKA principals are leaders of integrity and cannot put conditions on other people in order to work with them.
He further said OKA is growing strong and that it will be the one welcoming the other formations into their alliance and not the other way round.
Earlier, Kalonzo had been accused of bribery allegations with governors from the Ukambani region claiming he is demanding billions of shillings to join the coalition.
Governors Alfred Mutua (Machakos), Charity Ngilu (Kitui) and Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni) ruffled feathers over last week, saying they were aware of secret financial demands issued before considering supporting Odinga’s presidential bid again in the coming elections.
“We are ready to work with whoever is willing to change the lives of Kenyans, but there are some people who have decided to sit on the fence and we know they are bargaining for money. We know they have asked for Sh3 billion to sell our Kamba community for their own interests, (Kuna wale wengine ambao wame sema hao wata kaa kando kwanza wangojee, wajipange wafikirie alafu wata amua, sisi tunajua sio kando wangajoea ati wanafikiria ama mawazo imewazidia ama ni kupanga wana panga mikakati, apana ni pesa wana ngojea, sisi tayari tunajua ya kwamba wameitisha billioni tatu ,na wale wame itshwa wame tuambia,ni kama kuuza kabila la ukmba ndio wao binafsi wapate hela,)” said Mutua.
The two coalitions have also appointed technical and political teams who are working out the finer points of zoning out the nation among the various political parties, including offering a candidate for a Nairobi County seat to be supported.
