Suspect arrested for allegedly gouging out baby Sagini’s eyes in Kisii county
Detectives have arrested the main suspect allegedly responsible for gouging out the eyes of three-year-old Junior Sagini in Kisii county.
The 26-year-old Alex Maina Ochoki who is also the first cousin to baby Sagini was arrested yesterday evening and is held at Marani police station.
Ochoki is set to appear before the Kisii law courts today as officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) plan to seek custodial orders to pave way for further investigations.
Additionally, Maureen Nyaboke, the boy’s mother was also arrested and is set to face charges of child negligence.
Three other suspects connected to the incident – a form 3 student from a local school, a middle-aged man and a woman- went through a 10-hour interrogation before being released on yesterday evening.
Baby Sagini was on Thursday found dumped at his family’s banana plantation with his face covered with blood after being kidnapped on Wednesday evening.
Doctors at the Kisii Eye hospital where he was rushed to, operated on Sagini but due to the serious damage inflicted on him, the toddler was left permanently blind.
