Oscar Brighton alias Jangoo, a student from Zetech University, was yesterday released on a Sh1 million cash bail over alleged involvement in examination fraud.
Appearing before Milimani Law Court’s Chief Magistrate Wendy Kagendo, Oscar was charged over illegal possession of both KCPE and KCSE examination papers from an unknown source.
The KCSE and KCPE papers that he was selling were fake. Oscar allegedly created several WhatsApp groups where he asked students to deposit money to access different examination papers.
The DCI states that he is a serial criminal who has been extorting money from Kenyans. He was charging Sh1,600 for humanity while he charged 2,600 for sciences.
At least 70 students were in the WhatsApp group and had already bought the papers before the guy was intercepted.
The student pleaded not guilty for all two counts of illegally possessing the papers and exposing the contents of the examinations using a mobile phone. The case will be mentioned on April 1 for a pre-trial.
Brighton was arrested on March 10 by detectives attached to the Kenya National Examinations Council tasked with preventing any cases of examination cheating in the country.
