State to charge travellers using JKIA Expressway Sh250
For the next three months, travellers intending to use the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport express route will pay Sh250 for the ride.
The announcement was made by Kenya Railways on Thursday through a public notice as they gave out the schedule for the JKIA express route.
Initially, the authority had announced that it would charge Sh500 for the ride, causing a backlash from Kenyans.
“Why miss your flight? Get to and from JKIA with the Nairobi commuter train-DMU express service and connect seamlessly to over 10 flights daily to Mombasa and Kisumu,” the notice read.
Commuters from the airport will have two options to get to the city centre.
Those who arrive at dawn will have the option of boarding the BRT bus at 6am, via Embakasi station and arrive in the CBD at 6:54am Airport South Road has been specifically set aside for the BRT buses heading to JKIA
Another BRT bus will leave JKIA at 11.50am, arrive at Embakasi station by 12.05pm, leave after five minutes to arrive in the CBD by 12.44pm.
Commuters from CBD heading to the airport will board the first train from the central station at 5.45am and arrive at the Embakasi village station at 6.10am.
From there they will board BRT bus that will depart at 6.20am and arrive at the airport at 6.35am.
