Six Kisii MPs vow to campaign for Uhuru come what may
Six Members of Parliament drawn from the Gusii region have vowed to remain united in propagating the Jubilee agenda.
In what they termed as debunking the perception that Gusii land was a stronghold of the opposition , the Mps ed by Kisii senator Chris Obure said the next general election will prove critics wrong.
“As we speak, there are only three ODM Mps from Kisii, the rest are in jubilee and jubilee-friendly parties, so how can anybody claim that the region is pro-opposition when the numbers speak for themselves? The truth is bitter but our friends must learn to live with it,” said Obure who was elected on an ODM but has now decamped to jubilee to vie for governorship post..
His sentiments were echoed by Jimmy Angwenyi (Kitutu Chache) who dismissed claims that the opposition was reigning supreme in both Kisii and Nyamira counties as a myth: “surely our people have seen what jubilee has done as a government, it would be foolishness to ignore development and opt for empty politics that our friends in the opposition stand for,” Angwenyi said.
They were responding to criticism by opposition senator Moses Wetangula (Bungoma) and Boni Khalwale(Kakamega) who had criticized president Uhuru kenyatta’s visit to the region a fortnight ago, terming in as inconsequential.
The Kakamega senator alleged on the floor of the House that during the last elections, ODM garnered 73 percent of the vote and that the percentage will go higher in the august elections.
He was supported by Wetangula who argued it was wrong for the president to ask for support from Kisii on account for the fact that he had given several people from the region top jobs
“It is the responsibility of government to give people jobs. Government jobs should not be pegged on political support,” said Wetangula.
However the claims were dismissed by Nyamira senator Okong’o Mong’are who argued that, the fact that he had formed his own party through which he will be seeking the president was evidence that the Gusii region was entirely an ODM zone. He had been elected on a Ford Kenya ticket.
They were accompanied by Steven Manoti (Bobasi), Zebedeo Opore (Bonchari), Joel Onyancha( Bomachoge Borabu) and Nyaribari Chache’s Richard Tong’i.
