Six-days Nairobi Festival second edition officially launched
The Second edition of the Nairobi Festival was officially launched at the revamped Uhuru Park.
The six-day fanfare extravaganza seeks to showcase the cultural diversity of Nairobi and the artistic spirit of the city.
This edition like the first kicked off on Jamhuri Day with Nairobians thronging the Park and being part of the jubilant fusion of entertainment with their families and friends.
The Nairobi Festive was officially launched in 2022 by the city governor Johnson Sakaja to provide an opportunity for Nairobians to appreciate diversity in food, culture, and art.
Speaking during the launch, governor Sakaja said the festive will focus on celebrating the rich culture of Nairobi featuring artists specifically in Nairobi County.
The event will also have business people and vendors showcasing their goods.
“The essence of Nairobi Festive is to bring out that vibe and culture of our city. Last year we started to showcase our skills and talent. As I had said earlier, Nairobi is a hotbed of talent. We have musicians artists, people who do graffiti, dancers.” Sakaja said.
The governor added that they are trying to create opportunities for young people as the creative economy is a frontier of opening many opportunities for them.
“We will be showcasing that talent in the next few days here at Uhuru Park. The creative economy is a new frontier that will open up doors for many young people. We are trying to create jobs.” He added.
The first edition of the Nairobi Festival took place in December 2022.
This year’s event will mark the official re-opening of Uhuru Park, which was under renovation for the better part of the year.
