
Kenya Sevens national team Shujaa failed to proceed to the quarter-finals of the World Rugby Sevens Series for the fourth time in a row as Kenya capped off a poor weekend show with a last place finish at the Vancouver Sevens in Canada.
Shujaa only managed to pick a point in the just concluded seven series as the national team’s fortunes dwindled on Sunday.
In their last game of the series the Innocent Simiyu charges lost 24-7 to Spain in the 13th place semi-final a result that saw them stay in 10th place in the 2021/2022 World Sevens Series with 37 points.
In Singapore a week ago, Shujaa dropped to Challenge Trophy after losing in the semi-finals to collect five points from the Series.
Kenya has struggled to win matches since the series kicked off where they have failed to go past the group stage in their last three legs.
In the last three legs played Shujaa has managed to collect one point in Malaga, eight points in Seville, five in Singapore and only one in Vancouver to summarise a poor show in the world stage.
In Canada, Shujaa lost their two Group A matches against immediate Singapore Sevens champions Fiji and England to miss out on the quarters.
On the other hand Argentina claimed their first win in the series after 14 years, beating Singapore Sevens champions Fiji 29-10 in a pulsating final.
Argentina coach Santiago Gomez gets to lift the title as a coach, having won the 2009 San Diego Sevens as a player.
New Zealand beat Samoa 21-19 to win bronze, while South Africa, winners of the Dubai and Seville legs of the series, settled fifth after edging out New Zealand 17-15 in the play-off.
African side South Africa also known as Blitzboks still top the standings with 111 points followed by Argentina with 105 points and Australia 100 points.
The series take a break before heading to Toulouse, France on May 20-22 and London Sevens on May 28 to 29 at Twickenham Stadium. The Series will end with the Los Angeles Sevens on August 27-28.
